I stumbled across a great website called Charming Inns of Alberta that showcases some great looking rural and urban Inns in the province. Growing up in Alberta my family did a lot of camping and staying with relatives during road trips but we rarely if ever stayed in hotels or inns. We were the kings of the KAO and car camping. I have not stayed at any of the properties listed on the website, but after looking at some of their pictures and locations I would certainly like to.
As an adult my perspective on hotels and inns has changed significantly since work puts me out of town several times a year. I have stayed in some simply awful hostels with delightful service and some very very posh 5 star deluxe properties with horrible service. I wonder if the inns listed on this site live up to their pledge to be “more personal than a hotel”.
From the website:
The Charming Inns of Alberta concept is the initiative of a group of Alberta innkeepers whose goal is to offer the finest in accommodation, to provide the utmost in hospitality and to promote the “Inn Experience” as the holiday of choice in this province.
Larger than a Bed and Breakfast, more personal than a hotel, a getaway at a Charming Inn ensures personalized service, attention to detail, fine food and beverages, and a vast array of amenities. “Promptness and Courtesy” is the hallmark of all Charming Inns of Alberta.
Highlighted in the following pages, is a collection of the most interesting rural and urban Inns Alberta has to offer. Each property is independently owned and operated and reflects the tastes of its hosts and the uniqueness of its location.
Many of the Inns offer service year round and endeavor to promote recreational activities for each season. The Charming Inns of Alberta is committed to the highest quality service on behalf of each of our guests, with many of our Inns achieving and exceeding “Three Star” or “Three Diamond” standards.
We want you to know that wherever you travel in Alberta - be it with friends, family or business associates - we’re there, waiting to greet you. And we hope to greet you often!
Here is a map of the property locations. Kilmorey Lodge is the closest one to my hometown but I’ve never stayed there. Has anyone out there stayed at any of these inns? What did you think of your stay?

I have stayed at the Kilmorey. It was probably back in 1990. I went x-country skiing in Waterton with my parents during the winter and I think back then, the Kilmorey was one of the only places open during the winter. I remember thinking it was fun and they had nice down duvets on the beds. Also it had a Nowegian feeling to me.
