Liz and I enjoyed an evening at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park last night. The highlight for me was the fantastic collection of New Guinea art from the Jolika Collection of Marcia and John Friede of New York.

I was able to get a few good pictures despite the low light and no-flash restriction. Many more pictures to come later today.

UPDATE: Here are the rest of the pictures as promised. Be forewarned that some of the art is anatomically correct and the gallery is quite large (40+ pictures). Read the rest of this entry »

Francis Cabrel Man crush

10 Oct 2008 In: Music

I’ve had a man crush on Francis Cabrel ever since I discovered his lovely music 16 years ago (holy crap I’m getting old). This isn’t a great quality recording but it will give you a taste of what the French have been strumming their guitars to for the past 30 years. It certainly brings back memories of la Reunion and all things French. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

This map shows where money for and against Proposition 8 has been donated throughout the state. As of today the yes campaign has raised $19.7 million and the no campaign has raised $18.5 million. This is a polarizing issue (one of so many in this state) that has the noisy minority crying foul and discrimination.

We are for proposition 8 and we hope it passes for the sake of our children and grandchildren. Frankly I’m stunned more Californians aren’t concerned that 4 judges simply overturned the will of the people when they found proposition 22 (the marriage amendment from way back in 2000 in which 61% of Californians voted yes to keep marriage between a man and a woman) suddenly “unconstitutional”.  What is unconstitutional is activist judges changing the law, ignoring the law, and making up their own laws as they see fit. It was far from a shutout as well: it was a 4-3 vote which means 3 San Francisco judges wanted to uphold prop 22. My props to them.

I’ve been out campaigning door to door on two separate Saturdays and after knocking on hundreds of doors less than ten households in Walnut Creek/Concord said they were against proposition 8.

Again we are lovingly supporting marriage with a yes vote and we’re also showing our support by sporting a “Yes on 8″ bumper sticker on our car (if we had a yard we would put up a sign as well).
