Best eats in San Francisco?
14Apr2008 Filed under: Food & Drink, Living In San Francisco Author: LizThis is a call for all your favorite eateries in the Bay Area. San Francisco, Berkeley, Lafayette, etc. Darin and I are finding sifting through all the restaurants in this part of the world completely overwhelming!
Where do you eat Italian? Thai? Indian? Pastries? Anything? We’re game for anything in any price range, but are especially excited about visiting places within walking distance of a BART station.

Favorite Indian: Lotus in San Rafael — just about as good as the NYC Indian restaurants. Or Indian Oven in SF in the lower Haight. (sorry neither is Bart-able). If you don’t have the time for either, Swagat is not too bad in Concord.
Favorite Thai (besides homemade): Soi Four in Rockridge
Favorite Burgers: Taylor’s Automatic Refresher in St. Helena
Favorite Chinese: House of Nanking in the City or Chrysanthemum (sp?) in San Rafael.

I really like Chow on Church street in the Castro, they have the best Gingerbread Cake with Ginger Ice cream.
My favorite Indian is Darbar in Palo Alto
Also this really yummy place called Ame http://www.amerestaurant.com/
I ate what the waiter recommended and it was one of those meals that was just so so so so so so good. It’s like Japanese French fusion or something like that.

Talk about your hidden treasures…Go to Shanghai Gourmet in Walnut Creek. It’s in a strip mall dedicated mostly to auto parts, but it’s worth the search. Very unique dishes and handmade noodles. Try the pork and tofu sheet clay pot…Amazing.

do you guys check zagat guide? it’s a must have.
thai: Erewan in downtown WC is really good, make reservations to get a seat. Call us about sushi, it’s a hard location to explain. Sargam for Indian is good, also in WC.

I really like Mom’s House in Walnut Creek. It’s very yummy, but you are already familiar with it, I’m sure.

i’m also in love with a clay pot chinese restaurant (and i don’t even like chinese much). it’s in chinatown– 960 grant ave. it’s upstairs and doesn’t look like much, but trust me, it’s amazing. get the honey walnut prawns.
i love burma superstar, a few blocks from the northeast corner of golden gate park. spicy delicious.

ok- i’ve only visited, so i don’t know a lot except for the places my sister in law has taken me. but there is a little sandwich place called the green bean somewhere in berkley that has the most amazing veggie bagel sandwiches, i think about them and crave them.

I believe this is off the College Ave. Station in Oakland. It is a hole in the wall pizzeria that the Roemers turned me on to. Can’t remember the name, but there was a Safeway right off the stop and the pizza place was on the far side. It is even better than fat-slice pizza on Telegraph downtown Berkely. Sorry my memory fades after 10 years. Drat old age.
