I have a long history of bad luck with keys. I lose them, forget them, break them, and lock them in cars (often cars that are running) far more than I care to admit.

To remedy this key problem I started attaching my keys to a tether that is sewn into one of my coat pockets. It’s worked flawlessly up until last week when I arrived at the office, reached for the tether, and realized with horror that my keys were not attached and I had no idea where they were.

Now this was not as big of a deal as it could have been. Since I don’t drive to work I keep my car key separate from the others, so it was still safely at home. I was squarely without my office key and my house key but I am rarely the first person to arrive at either of those places so I didn’t panic; I was sure they would turn up.

And today they did turn up - in the same coat pocket where they always are. They had simply come detached from the tether and fallen deeper into the pocket. Par for the course, I would say.
