Est. 1999 Version 8
So I was tagged by Chou, a loooooong time ago, but I’m finally doing it! Five odd or less well-known things about me. These are harder and harder to come up with, I’m pretty transparent.
#1. I love to ride my bicycle! This is not news to anyone. Wait for it.
I bought a 10-speed with my paper route money when I was 10. A very proud day. But I had a few gnarly crashes that I didn’t tell anyone about and I was not in love with doing my paper route. So I dropped biking for several years.
Discovered biking again my senior year of high school on one of the pink Huffy’s that lived in the garage, belonging to one of my sisters I think. I was so lucky to bike all through college - always had a friend or roommate with an extra bike.
I finally bought my own brand new shiny bike again a couple of years ago while we were in Seattle.
The news is that as WILD as I am about bicycling I will never be a gear-head. Rats.
Proof: Last week I rode my bike to Target. In the check-out line I asked the cashier to please not give me any bags since I was going to shove it all in my backpack as I was on my bike.
“Oh! I bike a lot too! What kind of bike do you ride?”
“Um… It’s a mountain bike. I think it’s blue. I can’t remember at all.” Rats.
So I did take note once I got outside. I have a Trek. Um, a Trek something. It’s blue.
#2. Growing up I either wanted to be a lawyer/judge, marine biologist, or nuclear scientist. Not a teacher! But then during my freshman year at BYU I felt the call to teach and never looked back. I love my job!
#3. I really want a motorcycle. I had another dream last night that I was out running errands on a warm sunny day on my two wheels. It looked sort of like this, you know, because I bank in Moab. (Not me in photo.)

#4. I don’t really like Oreos. I mean, I’ll eat them. And if they are dipped in something they’re less blah, but I have never bought them ever in my life. And I’ve spent money on some weird food.
#5. I want really badly to be a wicked chef, yea, an inspiring culinary master, or even a foodie or at the very least a food snob. But, alas, I’m just to durn lazy. While I enjoy spending an afternoon at the cheese counter and trying all sorts of recipes requiring ingredients you can’t find at your average supermarket, I’m also just as apt to empty three Tupperware dishes full of leftovers into one bowl, warm it up and smother it in mayonnaise. Yeehaw!

Liz, I love this post. I laughed out loud at your banking photo. I love biking too, but the only time I have biked was as a missionary. I dream of getting a bike and riding it all over the place and having leg muscles again.

Liz, my knees still hurt as I think about the bike ride you took me on across the Nishi-Seto Expressway in Japan, depicted in this post. 46.6 kilometers? Nine long span bridges connecting seven islands? I must REALLY love you.
More info about how to do this ride-of-death (which honestly was a highlight of our 2 years in Japan) is here.

You already had a motorcyle. Little details…..like it is now in Tonga. I was hoping “outta sight, outta mind.” Silly me. Just being motherly….

Another interesting statistic might be how many bikes you have purchased versus how many bikes you have owned. What would that ratio be?

oh no! That came across all wrong! Liz is remarkable at not letting anything go to waste. Liz is not a gear-head and I really like that about her. While other people who love bikes would need the most expensive stuff, Liz loves and uses what is there. I think most of the bikes she has had were ones that other people didn’t want. She made them work–very few people can do that and that’s why the statistic would be interesting. Sorry if it sounded derogatory. I love Liz on bikes–anybody’s bike!

Nancy - if you ever said anything truly derogatory I might sprout a third arm. I knew exactly what you meant - and so did Darin, don’t be fooled!
It’s true I’ve always been blessed by the generosity of roommates, friends leaving for Japan or Taiwan, etc. Always had a bike. Heavenly Father loves me!

hi liz and darin- glad to know you guys are doing good- i miss seeing you out here in seattle. and liz i’m right there with you on the foodie thing. every food experiment for me is an event… which tells me they don’t happen nearly often enough to be the culinary genius i sometimes like to imagine myself. i’ve joined the blogging world, check us out at humphreyfamilyband.blogspot.com . so while i was writing this lucy came up and said, “who’s that? is she drinking a pumpkin? i love pumpkins! mommy, i want to play with her”. then she noticed the building near south pacific kingdom on your wallpaper map background and wanted to know if liz lives in a castle? drinking pumpkins, living in a castle, riding bikes… you could be lucy’s new best friend. love you both- kelly (and lucy)

Chou - Darin and I still talk about some of the meals we have had at your hands. HOLY MOLY! I’ve got to make that Thai pizza this week that you did for us so long ago.
