As many of you know, I was recently in Australia for three weeks for work. I had been to Australia before but this time the program included several new destinations for me including Tasmania, Kangaroo Island, Coober Pedy, Uluru, Katherine, and Kakadu & Arnhem Land - all of which were simply breathtaking in one way or another. Australia really is a vast country with incredibly diverse landscapes.

Another unique aspect of this program was the method of transportation. We traveled between each city via private plane rather than via commercial carrier, which made the program infinitely more enjoyable and gave us a bird’s eye view of the landscapes below. Via commercial air the program would have taken significantly more time & energy (translation: security lines at the airport).

Via private plane we didn’t have to go through any security lines and we even had tarmac transfers at three airports (this means the motorcoach was allowed to drive onto the tarmac to pick us up and drop us off at the foot of the aircraft thereby completely bypassing the terminal and security lines).

Our plane was a de Havilland Canada Dash 8 Series 100 with 37 coach seats. My estimate is the plane was 10-15 years old. The seats were old and tattered but it was still a good time, and to my knowledge no one complained about the plane. Here’s a picture of us boarding. There are no jetways for such a small aircraft but it didn’t matter as the weather was wonderful for most of the trip.

My posts in the coming days will walk you through the sites, sounds, food, fun, and flora and fauna I encountered on this trip. I will post each tour day separately with the exception of Days 1-3 as they were really one day rolled into one. I hope you enjoy living this adventure via my commentary and pictures. If you have any questions about any part of trip please ask!
