News outlets are reporting a McDonnell Douglas MD-82 passenger airliner operated by Thai budget carrier One-Two-Go has crashed in heavy rain on the resort island of Phuket (pronounced Poo-ket) in southern Thailand. Flight OG 269 was carrying 130 passengers when it slid off the runway shortly after landing and broke into pieces and then burst into flames. Reports are estimating 83-88 passengers were killed in the crash.
