Est. 1999 Version 8
I am curious about the speed of broadband internet around the country and across the world. I just took the speed test at the aptly-named speedtest.net and my results are in the table at right. The test also alerts the user to his or her speed ranking globally and nationally. How does your connection compare? Please take the test yourself
and post your results as a comment. Be sure to indicate whether your test was taken at home or at the office, and please advise your connection type (if you know).
The fastest posted download speed in each category (home & office) will win US$5 from me via PayPal.
Let the contest begin!

So my home connection isn’t that fast. I use cable internet with a wireless router that was already outdated when I bought it three years ago. I’m at home, but I want to try the connection at work too. Here are my results from home:

Country Rank: 47%
Download: 2598 kb/s
Upload:397 kb/s

I love this site! It helped me get my internet provider to fix my DSL and get me “up to speed” for what I am paying for.
