My dad (Ross) sent me these three pictures from his Victoria Day jaunt to Waterton National Park on May 21, 2007.

Starting with the top row at left in red is Decon Shaw, followed by Pudge & Ross; in front of Ross is Jeanan Shaw and to her left is Tara Shaw; Elaine Streibel is left of Tara; Doug Streibel is taking the photo.

Dad also included the following commentary:

It was green, all the way there–very lovely and beautiful. The foothills and mountains are so gorgeous when they are emerald.

We saw numerous deer, with rough coats as they continue to shed their winter thickness. They were on hillsides, by buildings, on the narrow “path” up to the Prince of Wales Hotel–eating the tender new leaves of trees and bushes. The big hotel is not yet open. Nor did we see the “big” boat (well, it is the largest on Waterton Lake). Water was very high–about a metre and a half from the top of the concrete walls to which are secured the floating docks.

Even 2 elk were observed, just after we left the 50 KM speed zone about a km past the big bridge by the cute old entrance building. Elk are so stately, so impressive.

On the way home, we drove in rain that was sometimes almost snow, but no snow accumulated on the ground or highway. The clouds were very low and thick, but it was beautiful.

The low clouds on the mountains was almost eerie, and almost mesmerizing as I watched their misty movements. Bears’ Hump was barely visible. Tops of most of the mountains were concealed/veiled.

There was a lot of water flowing out of the lakes…canoeing would be exciting and somewhat challenging right now. And with the warm rain today and what is expected in the next several days, perhaps the water level will even rise higher, as the snow is only partly melted to date.

Cameron Falls is roaring, leaping, and foaming, but it has been bigger, and is likely to increase in ferocity this week. The Falls are Waterton, and Waterton is Cameron Falls, to me. That’s where we met up with the Shaws today…usually that’s where we set up a rendezvous with anyone in Waterton. “We’ll meet at the Falls at noon…..” The first item in Pudge’s and my “art collection” is an unknown artist’s depiction of Cameron Falls–they and it are dear to us.
