Est. 1999 Version 7.1.0
I blogged about the first half of our family summer extravaganza here. I just wanted to add a few more shots to finish it off.
Burgess family - I will get your cds done Monday or Tuesday and then mail them to you. Sorry it has taken me so long! Cookies and kisses to you for your patience.
A few shots from dinner our first night in the Monterey area.
Dan was obsessed with “knock knock” jokes for a few days. Here are some of the highlights.
At dinner-
Knock knock! -Who’s there?
Uh… corn! -Corn who?
Corn banging on your food!
Was that a good one?
In the car-
Knock knock! -Who’s there?
Um… I’m dying! -I’m dying who?
Why are you boppin’ in the car up there!?
Was that a good one? -Yes Daniel, very funny.
At some point during the Monterey portion of the trip Nancy tried to explain to Kim how she had been very very nice to her, which required some considerable effort, in the not very distant past. “I did it because I love you!” If I recall, this exchange took place shortly after the passengers of Kim’s car had howled with laughter about all the “features” of her vehicle. Someone had asked Kim to do something while she was driving and she had to shout over our raucous conversation, “I only have two hands to signal with!” Why does Kim need two hands in order to get her car to signal? You won’t hear it from me. I say Kim’s car is dope. I love the tricked out AC the most I think.
These episodes gave birth to a song Kim is currently working on entitled ‘Your Love is Crappy.’
Back home, the following Sunday Paul made a fabulous dessert. The photo below doesn’t do it justice!
Here you see Dad absorbed in what I’m sure was an absolutely engrossing conversation where we worked out the solutions to the world’s problems. If you look carefully in the background you can see Clara wearing most of her dessert.
Dan & Liz discuss the Middle East. Or burping. I can’t remember which now. Probably the Middle East. Auntie Liz doesn’t discuss bodily functions ever.
This is the most awesome grin. Hee hee! But man, I’ve gotta lay off those forearm exercises. Yeesh!
Here’s the whole crew!
Sadly, none of the boys were able to accompany us for the rest of our adventures of the following week.
Monday - the Jelly Belly Factory. This is as still as we could get Clara. Hey - does someone have the shot of all of us outside the building?
Tuesday we hit the Lindsay Wildlife Museum where I volunteered for a season as a teenager. It is a seriously cool place with great birds and snakes and more that have been rehabilitated there.
Do you have the wingspan of a condor?
Dan and a stuffed kodiak bear.
Wait a second. Is Dan immitating the bear or his auntie, Ninja Nancy?
Then off to the pool. Kim, Jenny and I all wore black nearly matching swimsuits. Pretty hilarious.
Wednesday -Tilden Park. That place is awesome.
First we hit the steam train.
This kid is awesome!
Then the farm.
Here’s Clara workin’ Gramma’s hair. She’s hilarious. The second you pick her up she’s got both hands deep in your hair sort of massaging it. Veeeeerrry soothing.
Some nice people gave Dan some celery. Note - if you want to feed the animals here, you can only offer them celery or lettuce.
Here’s a shot of the city on the way home from Tilden.
The grandkids in the garden a few days later. Dan would transfer the dirt from one planter box to another while Clara filled her bucket and then dumped it down her own front.
I miss you guys so much!

How did you catch some of my ninja moves on film? I’m so stealthy. You can tell that Garrett doesn’t even see it coming.

The last photo of Clara reminds me of one of you, Liz, taken in front of some flowering bushes with a cute dress on, cut off at the knees (what we didn’t see were the cowboy boots you had put on to finish the outfit). I think both Daniel and Clara were gardening in cowboy boots, newly acquired that day!

Oh rats! I should have gotten a shot of the boots. They were both wearing them. I was distracted by their cuteness and the much dirt.
Kim - I agree, on both counts.

Nancy - you are a stealthy martial arts expert, yes, but I am also a ninja photographer. We are evenly matched, no?

Are the last two pictures reminiscent of Liz as a toddler?

I do think that I have a picture of toddler Liz that makes Clara look like an amateur at playing in the dirt .

I’d like to say that I’ve changed, but you would know I was fibbing!
